Irvine Museum Director Jean Stern traces the fascinating life of noted Pasadena, CA Impressionist Alson Clark and his extensive travels in France, Quebec, Spain, Dalmatia, Central America and elsewhere. Stern devotes an entire chapter to Clark’s adventures in Panama in 1913, where he documented the construction of the Panama Canal in his important series of paintings. Includes excerpts from his Clark’s wife Medora’s memoirs. A separate section is a critique of Clark’s work, its style and influences, and a more detailed account of his exhibition history and prizes.
