Born in Uruguay, F. Luis Mora (1874 - 1940) moved to America with his parents as a child. He studied under Frank Benson and Edmund Tarbell at the Boston Museum School of Fine Art, and continued his studies at the Art Students League in New York under Henry Siddons Mowbray. In 1906 he was elected to full membership in the National Academy of Design, and held memberships in 15 oher societies. He earned acclaim for his portraiture and murals, earning many important commissions, and also had major success in the field of illustration.
