The Monterey Peninsula has been a magnet for artists since the late 19th century. As one of the oldest continuously operating artist cooperatives in the country, the Carmel Art Association has exhibited works by some of the best known California artists, as well as several talented but more obscure artists. The six women featured in this catalogue, chosen for their diversity of styles, represent the wide artistic spectrum that the CAA has fostered since its early days.  Four of them- Abdy, MacLennan, Maxwell and McCormick- are lesser known artists about whom information is scarce and whose work is scarce in other printed publications.
