Sierra Journey: Edgar Payne 1883 - 1947
|
Produced and directed in 1946 by Edgar Payne himself, this short color film was intended as a supplement to his well known treatise ''The Composition of Outdoor Painting'', and includes shots of Payne working en plein air. In making the film, Payne drew on his background as a still photographer and as a scenery painter for the Hollywood movie industry, experience that also strengthened his rare ability to capture in his paintings the constantly changing landscape, recording the fleeting movement of color and light. This invaluable resource adds a new dimension to Payne's achievements as a leading California artist.
